“Dripped out and dreamy” is probably the best way to describe Eddy Puyol’s most recent music video. In fact, it’s the perfect, purple-hazed companion for a visual version of the chopped and screwed take on his “Like a Cadillac” track.
The original, classic car-based composition first appeared on his Nothing Changed But My Stage Name album and was later remixed with H-town’s signature sound by DJ Ovadose. Now, the song’s music video receives similar treatment from frequent Eddy Puyol collaborator Will Thomas (who also shot and edited the song’s initial visual take).
This slowed down version offers viewers a trippy, but spiritually calming, element to an already smoothed out single. The result gives a Houston gloss to a tune and video you’d imagine emerging from an Isley Brothers/UGK collaboration with the vibe of Ice Cube’s “It Was a Good Day.”
Puyol is also no stranger to the underground genre having released a Chopped & Screwed album in 2008 with DJ Primo under his previous Rawsrvnt moniker. And although he’s a Florida-boy through and through, his connection to Houston is strong, having multiple collabs with several artists from the city – most notably with Lil Raskull.
“When this song popped off I figured a matching chopped and screwed version of the video would take it to another level and my man Will didn’t disappoint,” Puyol said. “It’s definitely something I can see folks adding to their low-fi or chill music YouTube playlists.”
The track samples the artist’s previous work (“Flossin’ Him”) and its smooth groove, memorable melody, steady beat are tailor-made for a late night study session or sunny Sabbath.
